ICAN Faculty Development Program (FDP) on Cybersecurity

June - July 2025

Organized by Trust Lab - IIT Bombay, C3iHub - IIT Kanpur, CyStar - IIT Madras, and ITEL Foundation.

Empowering Educators. Strengthening Cybersecurity Education.

The ICAN Faculty Development Program (FDP) is a national initiative aimed at upskilling faculty from engineering institutions across India in both foundational and emerging topics in cybersecurity. By empowering educators with the necessary knowledge and resources, we aim to strengthen the cybersecurity curriculum and foster the next generation of cybersecurity professionals.

This program offers a unique blend of lectures, hands-on labs, and curated resources led by some of the best cybersecurity faculty in the country.

Indian Cybersecurity Academic Network (ICAN) is an independent academic group in the Cybersecurity and Encryption Technology domain. The lead entities that form ICAN are IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras and ITEL (Immersive Technology and Entrepreneurship Labs) Foundation with participation from premier institutes in India.

Program Structure

Phase 1: Online (Precursor Phase)

Dates:  June 15 – June 30, 2025
Platform:  NPTEL Learning Portal

This phase is open to all registered faculty members. It serves as both a knowledge-building stage and a selection round for the residential phase. Participants will attend live or recorded expert lectures and complete short assignments designed to evaluate their understanding.
Format:
    • 12 expert-led lectures (2 hours each)
    • Assignments after each session (MCQ/MSQ format)

Certification & Selection:

    • Participants who score a Distinction Grade in the assignments will receive a Certificate of Participation for the online phase
    • Based on performance, top 25–30 faculty members will be selected for the Residential Phase at IIT Madras

Phase 2: Residential (Advanced In-Person Training)

Dates:  July 12 – July 19, 2025
Platform: IIT Madras

This intensive, in-person training phase focuses on advanced concepts and practical skill-building. Selected participants will engage in a mix of expert lectures and hands-on lab sessions.
Format:
    • Morning: In-depth lectures by faculty experts
    • Afternoon: Lab sessions aligned with the morning topics
    • Each faculty expert will conduct a 2–3 hour lecture + lab session
Resources & Support:
    • All teaching materials and lab exercises will be made freely available to participants for use in their home institutions
    • Accommodation support will be provided by ICAN
