The Centre on Hardware Security: Hardware-Security Entrepreneurship Research & Development (CHERD) is a collaborative project between IIT Madras, IIT Kharagpur, DSCI Noida, and MeitY (Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology) focusing on addressing the growing risks in hardware security. As the threat landscape shifts from software to hardware, vulnerabilities like backdoors, counterfeit chips, and hardware trojans pose significant risks. CHERD aims to drive research, create market-ready intellectual property (IP), and develop a pool of experts to tackle these challenges. The initiative focuses on developing tools and methods to ensure the trustworthiness of hardware, address supply chain risks, and create strategies to manage them. Additionally, the project explores techniques for real-time management of hardware security risks in enterprise systems, ensuring strong protection against emerging threats. Through this project, CyStar will focus on research leading to productization of hardware oriented security components across critical sectors like finance, healthcare, and communications.
