Soumyottam did his PhD in Computer Science at the University of Houston in Houston, Texas. He specialized in distributed algorithms and he had the great privilege of having Professor Gopal Pandurangan as his PhD advisor. At IIT Madras, he has been working with Professor John Augustine on various projects related to distributed trust and algorithms for secure distributed systems.
